The Kansas Legislature recently passed House Substitute for Senate Bill 244. The law went into effect on February 26, 2026.
This law requires public schools to designate multi-person restrooms and similar facilities for use based on a person’s sex assigned at birth. In our schools, this applies to:
- Restrooms
- Locker rooms
- Changing rooms
- Shower rooms
The district is required to ensure that these multi-person facilities are used in accordance with the law.
Single-occupancy restrooms and single-user changing areas are not restricted by this legislation and may be used by anyone.
The law also outlines penalties for districts and individuals if the requirements are not followed. For your reference, a copy of the bill and related information is attached.
Haysville Public Schools will comply with state law while continuing to prioritize a safe and respectful learning environment for all students and staff. If you have questions, please contact your child’s school office
